Upstage Productions, Inc. announces its 2023 summer workshop. This is the 3rd year that Upstage has offered a summer workshop to area youth and its success has encouraged the continuation of the program. This year’s workshop is made possible through the generosity of those who contributed to the Donald Dolan Memorial Fund. Their contributions have allowed Upstage to reduce the fee for this year’s participants.
The fee for the workshop is $50 (per household) which includes a one year family membership to Upstage Productions and general materials needed for the workshop. Enrollment is open to students entering grades 4 through 12 (ages 8 – 18).
All sessions will take place at the Reformed Dutch Church, 88 Route 9 H, Claverack, NY. This venue has ample space to comply with applicable social distancing guidelines. There are no current COVID guidelines but we will encourage participants to maintain safe distances throughout.
Annie Drewello, a music educator at Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School District will direct the workshop program. Ms. Drewello will be assisted by Molly Oliveira, as well as various Upstage Productions veteran performers and directors, along with Broadway industry professionals that will be invited to present master classes.
The workshop will operate Saturdays 9 AM – Noon from July 8 through August 26, 2023. Lunch and snacks will NOT be provided. Everyone is free to bring their own snacks and beverages for snack breaks.
Each Saturday session will be divided into 2 groups. The age group of 8 – 12 year olds will take part in the “A Kid’s Life” musical production that will be performed locally on the final workshop date of August 26 and will be open to the public. The age group of 13 – 18 year olds will be introduced to all aspects of producing a full scale production/musical. They will be instructed in the areas of production coordination, stage managing, costuming, the audio and video technical areas, publicity, social media, and much more. This group will actually be the team that will produce the “A Kid’s Life” production.
